35 × 45 mm - Background: plain and light-coloured — but the accepted colour differs by country (see below)
EU law does not set a size in millimetres; it requires an ICAO Doc 9303 compliant photo, 35–40 mm wide with the face filling 70–80 per cent of the height. 35 × 45 mm is what consulates apply in practice. Backgrounds differ by member state and this catches people out: France explicitly forbids a white background, Germany asks for neutral grey, while the Netherlands accepts light grey, light blue or white. The Netherlands also uses a different head height (26–30 mm) from Germany and France (32–36 mm), so a single "Schengen photo" cannot satisfy every country. Please tell us which consulate is handling your application and we will size it to their rules.

Photo tips for the best result
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes open and clearly visible
- Face the camera squarely — no tilting or turning
- Even lighting on the face, with no shadow falling on the background
- Stand about half a metre in front of a plain wall, with the camera around 1.5 m away
- Ask someone else to take it using the rear camera — arm's-length selfies distort the face
- Send the original file, uncropped and unfiltered
We size, position and adjust the background so the photo meets the specification. We do not retouch faces — several authorities, including ICA Singapore, reject photos whose features have been altered.
Soft copy — edited and emailed back within 1 working day, ready for online applications.
Printed photos — collect from our Chinatown shop, or add delivery at checkout.
If a photo cannot be made compliant we will tell you what to fix and you can send another at no extra charge.

Walk in any time during opening hours — no appointment needed. We photograph you, edit to specification and print on the spot, usually in about 20 minutes.
In-store photography is a walk-in service and is not ordered online. Ordering here is for customers who would rather send their own photo, or who cannot come down to the shop.
